On April 26, 1986, the worst nuclear disaster in history happened. The Chernobyl disaster affected the lives of thousands of people and costs billions of dollars. On that fateful day, reactor #4 experienced overheating and eventually exploded. Because of that, a radioactive cloud was released killing three people immediately and thousands of others due to radiation. The exact number of people who lost their lives due to the Chernobyl disaster is still unknown. Some claim that 28 people working in Chernobyl at that time passed away in a matter of four months after the incident. Some of these workers allegedly did the heroic act of exposing themselves further to high levels of radiation just so they can secure the facility from leaking more radiation.
After years of research and investigation, a lot of questions remained unanswered especially when it comes to the long-term effect of radiation on the health of those who got exposed to it. The Chernobyl disaster will never be forgotten. In fact, there are memes that remind us of the deadly incident.
